WHAT IS PILATES
Stronger bodies, stronger minds

It was invented by a man named Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s and is a unique method of body conditioning. He realised that if one system of the body fails, another must compensate in order to restore complete body balance. He also saw the mind & body as an integrated pathway to total health. Pilates original method was narrowed down to 34 movements of strength, mobility and stretching. Over the years, these movements have been developed and refined.
HOW PILATES WORKS
Pilates involves the co-ordination of deep postural and stability muscles combined with breathing, arm & leg movements, postural correction and flexibility. Scientific research shows that Pilates can reduce pain and improve physical function, movement and wellbeing. In pilates, you work toward a safe increase in length and stretch of the muscle and range of motion within the joints.
CORE MUSCLES
When the core is strong, the frame of the body is supported.
When the core is strong, the frame of the body is supported. The neck & shoulders can relax and the rest of the muscles and joints are free to do their jobs (but don't have to do more). A tight core can also help you learn how to pull your abs in to get the most out of many exercises and everyday functional movements. Pilates involves a variety of abdominal exercises, which help to improve not only the strength of the core muscles but also their endurance.
A strong supported core in Pilates improves posture and reflects a good alignment Pilates is for absolutely anyone, any age or ability. On introduction, I will get you to complete a required registration form with regular personal history to assess your needs within the class. We will go through the basic 'Pilates Foundation' movements filtering in the '5 Key Elements'. This will give you the basic structure for the Pilates movements within the classes.
These movements can then be developed as you go to the highest strength/mobility level that you wish to achieve.
